Almost a hundred years ago, the Enchanters defeated the Lord of the Underworld in one of the most fearsome wars the world had ever seen. The public thinks that this victory means the people are safe. But they’re wrong. The supernatural beasts the Lord unleashed remain on the earth, multiplying and ravaging what’s left of civilization. As long as these monsters exist, mankind will be in danger. And though the government, ruled by the magic-wielding Enchanters, seeks to protect their people, they are too few in number. They need the Defenders – a special class of non-magical humans – to fight the monsters. The Defenders are an elite force, and mankind’s only hope against the horrors that live beyond their gates.

Fourteen-year-old Aurelia “the Firedragon” Sun has been training since she could walk to become a Defender, and her extraordinary combat skills have earned the attention of the powerful government. In fact, she’s been tapped to represent her nation in an international monster-fighting competition, which pits champions from across the globe against creatures of the Underworld in a violent spectacle. If she wins, she will become a full-fledged member of the Defender force.

But as Aurelia moves deeper into the competition, she realizes that all is not as it appears. There’s something sinister behind the competition, something that could change the way she sees everything … and the Enchanters, it seems, are not the heroes she thought. Aurelia begins to ask questions. But before she can discover the truth, she is pitted against the most dangerous monster in the competition – one that will take her life if it can.

Reis Slayton is a man without a home, family, or direction until the US military comes along. But the moment he joins, his ‘talents’ come to the attention of those higher than him – he has a sharp eye, and a willingness to shoot first and ask questions later. His deadly skills are finely tuned … and used.

But this isn’t what Reis wanted to be. Years later, after too many undercover operations, and countless lives taken, he finds himself questioning his direction. Does he believe in the government? Does he agree with his assignments? Or is he wasting his life – and conscience – on someone else’s goal?

With that thought in mind, Reis takes a leap and interviews for a new company, where he’s given the role of body guard. Against his better judgment, he takes a job that no one else wants – guarding the daughter of a wealthy family – and grudgingly moves into a new life. Soon after taking a job, he realizes that he might have found the one thing he’s never had: a family, and someone to fight for. He grows to love his new charge, and begins to feel fulfilled for the first time in his life.

But no matter how hard people try, they cannot escape the sins of their past. Will Reis be able to leave the life of an assassin behind him, and protect his new charge? Or will his history come back to haunt him, in the worst ways imaginable?

Today Sherry Soule, the author of the popular Spellbound Series, has some exciting news to share with us! All the previously published books in the series have been completely revamped with more epic romance, sizzling character chemistry, and thrilling new scenes!

The revised versions also include exclusive bonus material. To help promote the new editions, Sherry is doing this awesome guest post to share the update with fellow booklovers.
We have personal letter about the series from the author:

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the Spellbound series, which is set in the eerie world of Fallen Oaks. North of San Francisco, between Larkspur and Madrone Woodlands in Marin County, this coastal town’s magical charm and sweeping beauty is only a superficial façade. Nothing more than a smokescreen to conceal its murky history.
Those familiar with this area will realize I’ve taken some artistic freedom with this wooded setting. Ah, the power of a storyteller! I’ve chosen the backdrop of Northern California for an obvious reason. It is a beautiful area of lakes, forests, and wildlife.

On a special note, three amazing things really do exist in this locale: the lush forest of Muir Woods, the majesty of Mount Tamalpais, and San Francisco’s infamous roiling fog. I chose to retain these intriguing facets of the region because they contribute to the storyline in a very significant way.

In these serialized novels, you’ll learn the secrets of Fallen Oaks and more about the quirky inhabitants that populate this peculiar neighborhood, where it seems everyone has something to hide. Discover what skulks in the fog and prowls within the dense forest.

Meet the teenage residents that have good looks, lots of teen angst, and a fair share of supernatural intrigue. Read about Trent and Shiloh’s love story, which began with a mixture of lustful teen hormones and beguiling attraction. When Shiloh and Trent first meet, they both feel an instant connection, but at its core, it is a tale about the power of first love and the courage of two hearts that were meant to beat tremendous odds just to be together.

Happy reading,
Sherry

These are the new book covers created for the series!

Deadly Witchcraft. Ghostly Threats. Doomed Romance.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Fallen Oaks. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse.

When sixteen-year-old Shiloh Trudell takes a summer job at Craven Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes enchanted by his charms.
Finally, Shiloh’s met someone who is supercute and totally into her, but Trent is immersed in the cunning deception that surrounds the mysterious Craven Manor. So much so that he may lose sight of what is truly important to him. And she can’t decide whether she wants to shake him or kiss him. Yet neither one of them can deny the immediate, passionate connection growing between them.

But underlying everything is the fear that Trent may be the next victim on a supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him…

With cryptic messages from a pesky wraith, Shiloh will finally begin to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist and decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

Dark Magick. Town Curses. Dangerous Secrets.

Shiloh Trudell wishes she were an ordinary girl. But for as long as she can remember, she has seen demons—otherworldly creatures that prey on the innocent—including her classmates.

Sure, she loves shopping, gossiping with her friends, rebelling against her parents, and her overwhelming attraction to the one boy that seems to ‘get’ her. Yet deep down, Shiloh knows she isn’t like other teenage girls. There’s the gift of Sight (Yes, she can see dead people), the new magical powers—oh, and the lessons on demon hunting.

With the body count rising, Shiloh resolves to learn more about the deadly curse on the town of Fallen Oaks, as well as the ominous shadows that seem to follow just a few steps behind Trent Donovan, local hottie and Shiloh’s current crush. For reasons, she can’t explain she’s inexplicably drawn to Trent and the haunting world of Craven Manor.

The dark secrets infused within the town have long tendrils, mostly affecting its teenage residents. Even Shiloh and Trent—especially Shiloh and Trent—are not immune from the darkness. And Trent’s not the only one hiding something.
Someone in Fallen Oaks has put out a supernatural hit list on the teenagers in town, and now it’s up to Shiloh to face her worst fears, and then fight like hell…

Characters: Livvy: A ~ Tommy: A

This book made me laugh due to the fact of the things that Livvy tries to do to stimulate Tommy. You'll have to read this because it was pretty awesome. Then there are some things that Tommy says that made me laugh too! Other times I was like fanning myself a bit. There is mention of sex, rock n roll and drugs but not to depths of heading for the hills. It's just there. I liked the characters and how they have such sarcastic and playful banter between them. It's a short story but steamy that'll make you laugh. The overview pretty much sums it all of what the story is about.

For as long as she can remember, Wren Gray’s goal has been to please her parents. But as high school graduation nears, so does an uncomfortable realization: Pleasing her parents once overlapped with pleasing herself, but now... not so much. Wren needs to honor her own desires, but how can she if she doesn’t even know what they are?

Charlie Parker, on the other hand, is painfully aware of his heart’s desire. A gentle boy with a troubled past, Charlie has loved Wren since the day he first saw her. But a girl like Wren would never fall for a guy like Charlie—at least not the sort of guy Charlie believes himself to be.

And yet certain things are written in the stars. And in the summer after high school, Wren and Charlie’s souls will collide. But souls are complicated, as are the bodies that house them...

Story: B
It was a sweet, romantic high school story. It's between YA and NA. This just seemed different than what I normally read. It didn't scream "WOW" to me like some books have had. It had some moments that were really good when Wren and Charlie communicate about things and the frustrations that they go through with each other. You can see it's real. The whole concept that screamed to me was that it was in high school, romance and friendship blossomed and it was about the point of living now. The book was fast paced and I managed to finish it in a day.

Dying of thirst is the new reality.

Five years after the last drop of clean water disappeared, global societies collapsed and nuclear war shattered all hope of recovery. In a place now only a skeleton of its former self, survivors fight to avoid capture by the government. Forced to work in factories that produce the only drinking water available, those who go in, never come out.

Zach and Vivienne have lived as deserters since they were teenagers. Fighting amongst their own and scrounging for the necessities of life, they’ve learned to rely on each other in every way. Yet when tragedy strikes and the true objectives of the government facility are revealed, their world is ripped apart. A fate once thought to hold their demise may be the sole answer to their survival. Who can they trust? Who can they believe?

In this life, it pays to be waterproof.

Teaser

Vivienne yelled out and I whipped my head around to see what happened. The last man standing held an impressive hunting knife in his hand, while Vivienne had a fresh cut on her arm. Still, she held steady, sword gripped tightly in front of her, legs in a fighting stance.

Something stirred inside of me at the sight. Time slowed when I watched her wield the sword like an ancient warrior. It was hard to imagine that just a few years ago we were in high school worrying about football games and which party to go to on the weekend. Now we stayed in abandoned houses, scrounged for water, and spent most of our lives running. If things had been different, Vivienne and I would be graduating college this year. I had plans to go into medicine, and she wanted to be a vet. Funny how those dreams seemed so far away now.

A loud thump echoed through the now darkened night. She almost fell to the ground with the amount of momentum needed to decapitate the man. He dropped to his knees like a sinner begging for mercy, head rolling further down the hill. My stomach fluttered with admiration and annoyance.

“I didn’t need your help,” I said to her, getting up on my feet and trying not to wince at my injuries.

“Sure,” she huffed. Ripping her bandana off her face she tore it in two. “Here, wrap that up.” She nodded toward the tear in my sleeve and I stubbornly yanked the cloth out of her hand.

“I had everything under control,” I said between clenched teeth. It was the only way to mask the pain. “How did you know where to find me?”

“I followed the girly shrieks,” she said without missing a beat. I looked down at her in time to see a smirk pull at the corner of her mouth. “Let me do it.”

Once again, I allowed Vivienne to rescue me. It killed every part of that male ego inside, but I knew she’d let me do the same for her. In fact, I had. We always saved each other.

“Ow,” I said when she tightened the bandana a little too rough around my arm.

“Stop being a baby.”

“Stop showing off your man strength.”

She pulled even tighter but let a small laugh escape. I sucked in a breath at that sound, realizing how close I’d come to never hearing it again.

“Are you hurt anywhere else?” she asked, turning me around and patting her hands along my body. I froze, trying to ignore how comforting her touch felt. We’d been friends for years, and she was the only person in this world I trusted. Why had I risked so much for this run?

I stepped away from her, not liking where my thoughts were headed. “I’m fine,” I mumbled. “Stop mothering me."

“I wouldn’t have to if you’d listen to me.” She stopped in front of my face and stared me down. I stood a little over six feet tall and she was just a few inches shorter. Together with that glare, almost any man would cower under her. “Was it worth it?”

“Huh?”

“The water. How much did you get?"

I hung my head in embarrassment. “I had eight, but they shot through one. So six, I guess.”

“Six bottles?” She looked impressed.

“No, six liters.” Silence.

“You just made me kill three men for six liters of water?”

I shuffled my feet. “You only killed two.”

She reached out so quickly, I couldn’t defend myself. Both hands pushed against my chest and I stumbled back, falling to the ground.

“I could make it three,” she hissed. “I should kill you for your stupidity alone.”

Brandi lives in central Pennsylvania with her fur-ball cats (Onyx and Klepto), where she spends most of her time attached to her laptops, reading books, appeasing her sweet tooth, and watching TV for motivation.

Growing up in a haunted house inspired Brandi’s fascination with the paranormal, so it only made sense
that she’d write Urban Fantasy books for both teens and adults.
Brandi hasn’t been lucky enough to meet her soul mate (yet), so she writes paranormal tales of those who have.
Her stories combine magical elements with real-life issues, strong female characters, semi-old fashioned men and family values, woven together and told from an emotional, first-person perspective. She enjoys writing sweet stories that teach girls it’s okay to speak your mind and be independent, career-driven, and not worry about fitting in to society’s mold.

In addition to the BirthRight Novels, she also has four additional adventures she’ll be writing over the next few years, so stay-tuned.
I haven't been on here much of lately since family life has been a bit busy and such. I'm slowly trying to get myself back in the world of reading. As for writing my reviews I'm at the point of doing a rating system on it. My desire to write about the books haven't really clicked that much lately. I'm more focused on reading the book. So the few new reviews coming your way will have A, B, C, D ratings on cover, story, and characters. Hopefully my writing muse for book reviews will come back! Overview
Macey Gardella is a typical young woman of the Roaring Twenties: she works a job, has her own flat, and loves to dance the Charleston. But when a mysterious man named Sebastian Vioget informs her she belongs to a family of vampire hunters, Macey is stunned and disbelieving.

Yet, strange and frightening things begin to happen, and when Macey comes face-to-face with one of the fanged creatures, she has no choice but to believe Sebastian. And when she learns his own soul depends on her willingness to carry forth the family legacy and hunt the undead, Macey capitulates and joins the fight.

As she begins to learn about her new life, Macey meets the handsome newspaper reporter known as Grady--who seems to know more about vampires than he should. When he begins to ask too many questions, she has to juggle her strong attraction to him with the need for secrecy.

Slipping into speakeasies and sampling bootlegged whiskeys, dodging gangster gunfire and trying to keep her nosy landlady from finding the stakes in her flat, Macey Gardella must navigate through a world of stunning violence, passionate romance, and dark betrayal.

My Take
Oh my gosh! I read this amazing line that I found in the book ~
"I'm not making any promises," she said blithely, trying to regain her senses. She'd kissed boys before, but Grady was definitely not a boy and this was definitely not the same. page 81

Does that catch your attention? When Colleen Gleason announced she was writing another series of the Vampire Gardella, I had to get it, no matter what. I'm a huge fan of hers. I have read the first five books of the Vampire Gardella series which I absolutely adore! You do not need to read the first five to be knowledgeable for Roaring Midnight. It gives you a feel for a spin off from the first five books by Colleen Gleason. It's almost like a mini series. For some reason, the entire Vampire Gardella series fascinate me due to the fact I'm a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So I get a image of a woman who can kick butt and still be beautiful in her own right. Onwards to the review...

Macey is the main character who has had some knowledge of who her parents were. Although she did not know everything! She knew they died but how remained a question for her. When she finds out how they died, she was shocked! It took her time to realize her true heritage of being a vampire slayer. I felt Macey had the right reaction of shock in learning everything but at the same time I somewhat had a hunch she knew a little bit about this. After all she was having dreams of being a vampire hunter! She takes her time on deciding whether or not to accept her fate as a vampire hunter. Macey is a strong female character in this book with a stubborn mind. I loved, loved, loved that Macey works in a library. (I love libraries!!!) Her goal is to become a head librarian which I hope she succeeds down the road.

Colleen hits the spot with the terminology and feel for the 1920s in Roaring Midnight. You will not be able to put it down. It also takes place in Chicago which is a favorite city of mine. Al Capone is mentioned in the book which was quite interesting and caught my attention. I wonder what made Colleen to include Al Capone. I look forward to the next book on him and Macey's adventure!

Sebastian is mentioned! He is a character from the previous Gardella books which I enjoyed. It was nice to see him pop up in this series. I always thought Sebastian was mysterious and still is to me. Other than Sebasation, we also have a character named Chas. Chas seems to have his own baggage which makes me wonder of him. Hopefully I will find out more about him! All the characters have a role to play in this story and you will see Macey trying to figure out who to trust.

The cover is awesome! I have always loved Colleen Gleason's covers of her books. This cover fits right in with the Vampire Gardella series of 1920s! I want more soon. I look forward from seeing more from Colleen Gleason in these series. If you have read her previous Gardella series, then you need to add these to your collection! If you like vampires, then you need to read this as well. So go find your copy today.

I decided to head to ALA 2013 because it was in Chicago! Of course I live in Illinois and I took the train downtown. I attended ALA 2013 on Saturday and Sunday just for the exhibits only. I hopped the train as it stopped at every stop. Then of course my brother lives downtown so he picked me up and went to his place for some breakfast. It was fun. After we ate, he dropped me off at McCormick Plaza which is not far from his place at all. I did have a list this time to be prepared. Sadly I did miss a few books I wanted but got that made up later from walking around. I saw many lovely publishers such as Penguin, Little Brow, Flux, Hyperion (Disney), Sourcebooks, Macmillan, Spencer Hill Press, Zondervan, HarperCollins, Harlequin, Bloomsbury, and so on. The place was huge. Of course there were artists and business companies for the library field was so neat to see! I loved seeing the shelving units and tables and chairs and even book drops were there. There were business companies such as 3M, Family Research, Baker & Taylor and so on.

After getting some books here and there and meeting with some people from the publishing company, I had to get lunch. The food was pricey! I spent 20 bucks on lunch there..the sandwich alone was $17.00. The joys of going into the city! After I ate, I headed back out. It does help to have a list. The one thing that was different was that ALA had their numbers on the floor, where BEA had their numbers up on top. Plus I didn't see a map in the ALA handbook that they gave us. So I basically went around in circles quite a bit! Oh my feet were fine but my shoulders ached so from carrying those books. It's quite a work, good for the soul! I saw so many different people there and met some great librarians! It was packed.

I also learned that 'Teardrop' by Lauren Kate would be handed out on Sunday morning so that was a new thing to add to my list! Plus I got an extra copy of 'Teardrop' for another book blogger named @heatherkkilpatri who did not know if she could go or not. I believe you can go. I saw children there which made me smile! Then I saw a tweet from another book blogger named @Sash_and_Em who had to leave early and wanted to get Shannon Messenger book signing as I did get a copy for her. I just like to help others out. Plus I also got some books for my two teacher friends as well. I came back with tons of books!

I did get to meet Colleen Gleason who I have been a fan of since 2007! There's another blog posting about that. Then I also met Shannon Delaney where I got a copy of Weather Witch, then some other authors I met were Julie Berry, Simone Elkeles, S.J. Adams, Geoff Herbach, Amanda Sun, C.Y. Lyons, Marissa Moss, and a few others. It was exciting and fun.

One thing I did get to have was dinner with my brother and his girlfriend at Hugo Frog Bar which was amazing. If you like seafood, then you need to go to this place! It was amazing!!! We shared an appetizer of Mussels! I had a bowl of clam chowder soup and then some shrimp for dinner. I was full afterwards. We did eat outside and it felt great. There was a heater outside too. It was fun to watch people go by. Later that night we headed back to my brother's place since I was crashing the night there (nice brother to help his older sister out)! We watched the movie 'Gangster Squad' - it was a good movie but a little violent. I did sleep pretty damn well since the train does go by his place.

Sunday came and my poor shoulders were already sore from Saturday. Sunday I ended up with more books. Holy cow! At the end, I went to Flux publishers to see what they had and the one lady there was so nice, she gave me a copy of this one book that I wanted to read since I would not be there on Monday. Thank you soooo much to Flux Publishing!!

Now I have all these books to read...I'm pretty much set for a while! Heading home..I had to walk from State Street to Michigan Ave to get a taxi cab to get to the train station to get home! I barely made it. Once I got on the train, it was packed. There was no place to sit! I ended up standing the entire time until about the 3 or 4 stop before I got off the train. The Metra train runs every two hours on Sunday. My kids were happy to see me when I arrived and so was my husband! I have the best family. A wonderful husband who lets me geek out at books.

If you are thinking of going to ALA, do it! It's worth the fun. Just like BEA..it's fun. A great way to see the whole world of books and people! I believe 2014 ALA is in Las Vegas and BEA 2014 is in NYC again. If you got any questions for me, ask away. :)

I finally got to meet Colleen Gleason! I've been a fan of hers since she wrote The Vampire Gardella back in 2007! I've read the whole set of that and then I heard she has a new spin off of The Vampire Gardella, I had to have it! The next book I read was Roaring Midnight (review coming soon) which was amazing as well! I was excited. Then I heard about her young adult book called The Clockwork Scarb (Stoke & Holmes #1) which she was signing at ALA2013! You bet I was going to get to meet her and get books signed!

She and I have chatted through Facebook and Twitter which I love. She's just a friendly person! She signed the arc of The Clockwork Scarb which was at ALA 2013, Roaring Midnight (which I brought from my collection, order it online if you are interested!!) and then the first novel she ever wrote The Vampire Gardella (once again from my own collection & find it online if interested)! Plus I got a snapshot of her with me too. I look awful in the photo, don't I? Ugh. Anyways that made my day! She had tons of people lined up to sign and hope many people are aware of her awesome writing. She rules.

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

My Take:
Oh my gosh!! I have never heard of Cora Carmack until I attended the BEA 2013 in NYC! I got her autographed for this book and was thrilled. Once I saw the book was about (the cover was eye candy), I knew I had to get it. The line was long but it was so worth it! I did start this book on my way home from NYC to Chicago as I could not put it down. It took me about two days to read and let me say wow!!! (yeah I finally get around to writing a review!...eeps)

I have not read the first book so I jumped into the second book and it was awesome. You can still follow along but I am curious of the first book. Anyways onwards to the review...

Basically the book is based on Cade Winston who was mentioned in the first book. He is living in Philadeplina and finds himself at odds end with life and love. From what I could tell that he was very into Bliss and sadly it did not work out. To be let down is always a bummer. You could the emotions from Cade which I enjoyed. Bliss invites Cade to Thanksgiving dinner but Cade is not up for it. I would be feeling the same way, wouldn't you? Anyways Cade tells Bliss he's heading home for Thanksgiving as Bliss accepts that even though Cade isn't really going home. Meanwhile, Max comes in with her boyfriend who she is dating at the coffee shop as she gets a phone call from her parents who are going to meet her there.

Pure shock and panic hits Max! She then tells her boyfriend, Mace to just leave because she knows her parents will not like him at all and disown her. Cade is watching all of the action of Max and Mace, after Bliss and her boyfriend depart. Max manages to spy Cade and talks him into acting as her boyfriend as her parents arrive. Cade agrees as he does such an excellent job charming Max's parents. Her parents adore Cade. They get to hang out together for 24 hours. After the 24 hours are done, they go their separate ways but somehow they can't get each other off their minds. They do see each other time to time in certain places as I loved how they react to each other in those events. It's a combination of soft and hard.

Cade gets a more of an understanding how Max is when she's with her family and how she is alone. Max learns more about herself when she is with Cade. Eventually tells her parents of her music and tattoos which I think is powerful thing to do. Even Max helps Cade with his pain too. There is some angst between them and drama but that what makes the book great too. Cora writes amazing characters with their point of views into a plot that will take you on a rollar coaster ride!

Will Cade and Max actually be together or not? Will Max parents find out? What will happen? I totally recommend this book! It made me laugh, smile and gasp! The interaction between Cade and Max is a combination of humor, heat, passion and softness. They click with each other so well when they want to. They are opposites. You so need to get this book and read it. You will fall in love with the characters and swoon at Cade and root for Max! I look forward to reading more of the lovely Cora Carmack!!

LOSING IT
Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if that weren’t embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She’d left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Cora Carmack is a twenty-something writer who likes to write about twenty-something characters. She’s done a multitude of things in her life-retail, theatre, teaching, and writing. She loves theatre, travel, and anything that makes her laugh. She enjoys placing her characters in the most awkward situations possible, and then trying to help them get a boyfriend out of it. Awkward people need love, too.

FRIDAY
In this wee hours of darkness, I am off to the airport. I get dropped off and inside I go! I am sooooo glad that I printed out my boarding pass because there is a long line of people waiting to get checked in. I asked one of the people at the airport about which gate do I go as they looked it up quickly and wrote it down. I thanked them and off I went to the security line as it was quick.

Onwards to find some food! Good thing McDonald's was open as I snagged some breakfast food. Next step was to go to my terminal to wait. I sat and nibbled on my food as best as I could. My tummy was not feeling the best that morning.

The waiting did not take long. I found my seat and sat down as the flight was booked! 5:45 am flight to NYC was booked! I honestly thought it would not be full. We headed on out as I managed to read a bit on the plane but also went back to sleep. Most of the other passengers did the same too. I knew I would need it.

I came out of the doors of the airplane and into the airport of NYC. Airports are always busy no matter what. I followed the signs to 'Ground Transportation!' Once I got outside, it was warm compared to Chicago weather. I spied the line for taxi as it was long but the line of taxi's was long too! The wait lasted about 10 minutes tops. I got in and off I went in a busy taxi cab to NYC. Well, traffic came up! Nine o'clock would do that on a Friday I believe. I saw cars about and tall buildings that was filled with wonderful architecture.

I saw traffic cops directing traffic which you rarely see in Chicago and it was pretty cool. People on bikes. All life was bursting alive. The cab driver was nice and had an accent which made it hard for me to understand. I arrived at the hotel as I was quite early! I could not get in until later. So I sat there thinking what to do. Part of me wanted to explore as the other part of me wanted to just relax. I gave into the exploring side of things.

I checked my luggage in so the hotel could keep it while I go out as I got a map as well. I headed off thinking I can do this! Within a block there was a 'Starbucks'! I went inside snagged some water, a sandwich and a lemon cake pop! Boy I was hungry. After eating the food I decided to hit up the Empire Building.

Out the door I went! People walking and cars honking as I moved my feet. I turned down the one street and passed by buildings. I then found myself at the Empire State building as I looked up feeling awesome to be here. The building also hit me up a bit with the movies and history behind it. I snapped shot a photo outside and then saw tons of people go in. I was thinking the lines were going to be long but it's a risk to take. I entered as I saw the stunning artwork as I took another photo.

Up the elevators I go to purchase a ticket. I got the basic ticket for now to the 86th floor. One line after another. Tons of people there of all ages. Once inside the first elevator, it took us to the 80th floor. Then I walked some more in another line. I think this was to keep everyone moving. It was almost like a traffic control. Then to another elevator that took us up 6 more flights. 86th I arrived! I went outside and saw the amazing views. You could see North, South, East and West views. I could see a bit of Central Park and the amazing buildings around. The cars and taxis down below were small. It was a bit breezy up there but was getting hot! I savored the views and snapshot some photos here and there.

Then after being up there for a bit seeing people with their family and friends, I kind of wanted to get back to the hotel to rest. Off I go back down. Into the first elevator down 8 flights to do conquer first. Then there were some more lines zig zagging away. I had to wait at the next elevator for a bit and then back down to second floor where I exited out of this store as I entered on the main floor of Walgreens.

Walgreens I snagged some goodies to take back to the hotel. You never know what you might need. I had ginger ale, water, saltine crackers, kit kate and raisins. Off I go back into the hot water. I headed back to where I came from as the city was bursting with life as always.

Once I arrived to the hotel, I could go in! Yay! Up on the 10th floor of Eventi Kimpton Hotel, I could see the Empire building which was pretty neat. My hotel was simple: bathroom, bed, small desk, and tv. The wood work was dark which I liked and the bathroom had marble I think. The stone in the bathroom was white, gray and black. I decided to rest. After all I had a Book Blogger picnic to go to at Central Park! Oh and my room was chilly but hey it felt good after being outside.

After resting for a bit, I changed into shorts and a tank top with a light weight black jacket. I knew I should eat before I headed out. I found some restaurants that were right next to the hotel. I had a chicken sandwich which was pretty good. I sat there and watched people come and go out in the busy streets. It was interesting. Sadly I could not eat the whole sandwich. Quickly I headed back to my hotel to drop off the food.

Heading to the lobby, I asked how far Central Park was. The guy at the front desk was very helpful and said I could walk it and I would be fine. I was up for it. So off I went walking down on 6th Ave as it turned into Broadway. I was walking and walking and looking and looking. Next thing I knew I was in Times Square..how did that happen? I thought it was another block over. I saw a variety of characters which was fun to see. Then I wondered if I was ever going to make it to Central Park. I pulled out my iPhone and checked the map..yup I was on the right track!

I saw this cool building and could not help but take a photograph of it with my phone. Architecture rules! I saw the park! Now off to find where those bloggers were. Southwest in Central Park…I found them. All of us bloggers were women. There was one guy there which I believe was someone's husband. We chatted and hung out. It was fun. I admit I was a bit shy. I did get to meet Book Soulmates bloggers who were the sweetest ever!

After that was over I was going to walk back. One of the bloggers said I was nuts. I did have good shoes on for this trip because I knew I'd be walking tons. Doesn't that make sense? Of course the shoes go with jeans or shorts..not so much for dressy like events. So on my way back walking, the lights came alive in NYC. Times square busy as usual. I saw the Cowboy guy that sings in boots and speedo with his guitar! Sadly I did not take a picture but the image remains in my head. I found my way back to the hotel with no problem whatsoever!

I entered my room and drawn the curtains as I saw the Empire building lit up! It was yellow. That was so cool to see it from the hotel. I then got read for bed and watched some tv as sleep was calling to me because tomorrow as going to be a busy day!

SATURDAY
My alarm went off! My first time using my iPhone as an alarm. I already had my clothes set out so up and at them. I had a banana to eat along with some of the goodies I had in my room that I bought from Walgreens. Sadly I did not really stop for breakfast. I was on a mission. I was going to walk from my hotel to Penn Station to find the shuttle bus!

Life was alive on a Saturday in NYC as I walked down the streets. Once I made it to the corner, some guy was trying to get money from me as I told him I had nothing on me which was true. I saw the huge post office across the street from where I stood as you cannot miss this building. It's white and huge! So where was the shuttle bus? I had no idea what kind of bus it was going to be. This was my first time going to BEA!

I saw a lady putting on a pass that had the BEA symbol as I asked her where the bus was. She did not know either. Then I saw a huge bus as another guy came up to us and told us that the bus was for BEA! I hopped on. There were only eight of us on the bus as the bus went off to other pick up stops. It was an adventure being in NYC on a huge bus.

Arriving at Javits, I headed inside to get registered and such. That went quick! So that was a big thumbs. Then I saw the line for people who were waiting. Well I arrived at 715-730 am perhaps? The whole thing did not open until 9 am. So while in line, I looked at the map and marked it to the exhibits I wanted to go to. I did learn of authors signing as well! Sadly I did not plan my whole agenda out, I winged it! I thought I did well for my first time.

I met some lovely bloggers while waiting in line and we chatted about book blogging and where we were from. We exchanged cards and some of them gave me some good tips. I loved everyone who gave me tips and ideas of what to do!! Thank you so much.

Once the line started, I was excited and off I went. Oh my gosh..some people were out for a mad dash! I was more laid back a bit. I ended up going by one booth as they were handing out bags and people were snatching them up like it was candy. Hands flying in front of me left and right. I did get a bag in a nice calm way. Then I headed off. I was stuck with a dilemma! Sarah Dressen or Spencer Hill Publisher? That was my first tackle.

I thought I'd do Spencer Hill Publisher first since they had two authors signing. I snagged "PODS" and . After I got the books, I went off to see if I could get in to see Sarah Dessen. Sadly, the books sold out! Holy cow…I was amazed by this. The one thing I liked about the autographing section of BEA is that those amazing people who stood out there holding the books for us to see before making a decision either or not to get in those lines was a fantastic idea. Good job!

I went on to exhibits here and there. Then headed off to get some autographed books. A young girl was there from PA got an autographed of Jim Carrey! Lucky her! I missed that. Sure there were some things I missed but hey you can't win them all. I did take a few breaks but I had energy and stayed the entire time. There was one line that was very long and I had to sit at times in order to make it through. I was glad I wore my good walking shoes.

My husband wanted me to get 'The Oatmeal' signature, but he was only there on Friday! Darn! Maybe next year I can snag it for him. I was surprised when my husband asked me to do this.

The place started to pack up around 2-3 pm. I knew it was time to go. So off I went to find the shuttle. Once I was on the bus, I was tired and wondered if I was going to able to fit all these books in my bag going home. I did get a text message from someone I knew in NYC but sadly could not meet up. Then my co blogger from "Me, Myself and I" Amber did not get a chance to meet up either. So I was alone.

I admit it did feel a little weird being by myself and not sharing this event with anyone but at the same time it was an adventure! I arrived back at my hotel as my shoulders ached from the books that were in my bag. I sat on the bed and chilled out. I then went through the goodies I got enjoying them. Two hours later I was hungry so off I went to eat by myself at the hotel restaurant. I had this pasta that was very good but sooooo rich. I was in a pasta mood. Perhaps next time I'll hit up one of the restaurants that was two blocks away or so for pasta.

After dinner, I went back to my room and got ready for bed again. I saw the Empire Building as I drew the curtains and it was blue! My favorite color as it made me smile. I did get everything organized because I had to leave tomorrow morning. Bed, book and movie was next! Then sleep came as I could hear the traffic all about as it wasn't that bad. I did get all the books in my carry on and in my back pack.

SUNDAY
Sunday came as I woke up and slowly moved about. I went downstairs to check out and then snagged a taxi to the airport as there was not that much traffic this time. I had to find what gate I was in since I was already printed out my pass! Good thing to do when traveling about. Off to security lines as they kept moving. Everything went well. I got my books on the plane..whoo! Once I was through security, I needed food. Cereal, cheese stick and a banana was what I managed to snag while at the airport.

Time to get on board to the airplane. The one thing when I travel by myself is the boarding number or by seats is always hard to hear because they announce it on the speaker which sounds always weird to I. One in my seat, I got comfortable and off we went. People slept on the plane ride back as I did too. I also did get to start a new book by Cora Carmack "Faking It." I did not finish the book on the plane but the next day I did. :) Anyways, Chicago was quite chilly and I got picked up by my lovely mom who I took out for breakfast for her birthday that weekend. After breakfast I headed home as my kids were sooooo happy to see me and wanted to spend time with me. My husband said they kept asking about me.

So that was my trip and I sure plan on going back out there again soon I hope! Thank you to hotel staff, BEA staff, bloggers, and everyone. It was fun.

Overview
Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

But her revival, and Ben's possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI agent father's files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what's right in front of her: Everything that's happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben's sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she's going to need to uncover Ben's secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

My Take
I attended a book signing where Elizabeth Norris was there! I decided to give her book a try. She was promoting the sequel to Unraveling so I decided to get the first book to see if I liked it. I did get the paperback book signed which is always awesome to do. It was fun to meet her and the other authors that were there as well. I had an open mind when I began to read this book.

Janelle is a teenager who lives with her mother, father and brother. Her life looks great on the outside to everyone but inside it is chaos. Her mother is bipolar and is constantly taken care of. Her father works long hours and is rarely home to help out when needed. What it boils down is that Janelle does most of the work around the house. She is almost taking on second mom duties. She gets along with her brother great as I loved their relationship with each other. She is just an amazing character. Pretty busy life, Janelle has!

One day things all seem normal until Janelle dies and then comes back to life! Well that sure got my attention. It took Janelle a while to put the pieces together on what had happened to her. When she figures it all out, it's quite a shock considering it is also related to her father's work. She began to snoop and let her interest fall into the depths of investigating. She is one smart cookie! Even I was shocked when I read what had happened to Janelle. This point in the book left me wanting to know more! So that required more reading.

She also did not expect to fall in love with Ben. Ben is quite the guy. He's a quiet guy around at the school. Even though the spark is there for Ben and Janelle! They know there is work to be done to solve the mystery and save the world. While trying to solve the mystery, they uncover some gruesome scenes which is a combination of science fiction and paranormal. It was different and unique. There is trust, devotion and love between Ben, Janelle and others when they go through this adventure together. All relationships have those components and I loved how this was shown in the book through the good and the bad events that happen.

Adventure goes to one thing after another. You get the action, the drama, the love, the hardships and choices that are hard to make. All the emotions explode in this book! I was feeling quite a bit of things. You will fall in love with the story and the characters. I loved how Janelle learns the secret of Ben and his friends which was awesome. The way it unfolded was not what I expected. Janelle is such a strong character considering what she has been through. Some people would not be that strong.

I'm not going to give any of the spoilers out and about on this book because it is so great. Plus I want you to go get it. It's different and had me hooked on from the first chapter. There is one line that everyone talks about that Ben says and I totally agree with them that it is such a fantastic line! Curious what it is? You'll have to go get it.

I am so getting the next book in this series! Thanks for Elizabeth Norris for writing such an amazing story. Plus it was lovely to meet you too!

Moving to a new high school sucks. Especially a rich-kid private school. With uniforms. But nothing is worse than finding out the first girl you meet is dead. And a klepto.

No one can see or hear Kimberlee except Jeff, so--in hopes of bringing an end to the snarkiest haunting in history--he agrees to help her complete her "unfinished business." But when the enmity between Kimberlee and Jeff's new crush, Sera, manages to continue posthumously, Jeff wonders if he's made the right choice.

My Take:

I've never read any books of Aprilynne Pike until now. My first impression on "Life After Theft" was that it was quite interesting take on a ghost. Most ghost stories that I have read swim towards romance, revenge or horror aspects. In Aprilynne's "Life After Theft" has the ghost geared towards more of realizing how you can affect someone. This book is contemporary with a light touch of paranormal.

First off Jeff moves to a state of the art school that is filled with rich students. He enters the school thinking all will be well. The first person he sees is a girl named Kimberlee who acts really strange to him as he thinks she's playing a joke on him since he's the new kid. Kimberlee is a ghost and has been trying to get someone to notice her for some time now. Jeff is the one who can see and hear Kimberlee! Kimberlee is quite happy about this and then wants Jeff to help her with her unfinished business. Jeff is not so thrilled about this concept since it's about returning all the stuff that Kimberlee stole when she was alive.

As the task begins and Jeff learns the story behind this. Both Jeff and Kimberlee have their good and bad moments. Jeff realizes Kimberlee is not the easy to get along with and was not really nice when she was alive. While dealing with Kimberlee, he also manages to snag a girl named Sera who has issues as well. Jeff learns about the issues of Sera as he sticks with her no matter what Kimberlee says about her. Jeff seems the type of guy giving everyone a chance which I found this to be quite a nice feature. Does Jeff help Kimberlee with the whole thing? Does Kimberlee change? Does the romance between Jeff and Sera actually work?

The book was a fun read. I enjoyed Jeff the most since he was just a great, round guy. Kimberlee took me some time to warm up to. Sera had me curious at times and then I was not sure if I could trust her or not. It was a game of Sera vs Kimberlee for I. Overall the characters were quite interesting and real. I think think book shows you a depth of everyone wanting to fit in somewhere. The plot was quite an adventure since all the characters connect to each other on one level or the other.

If you are looking for a simple and light read, then go pick up this book today. I'm glad I read "Life After Theft!" I look forward more of Aprilynne Pike's work.

PS: The cover is quite interesting!!
