The Rules
(Project Paper Doll #1)
Author: Stacey Kade
Hardcover
Pages: 416
Published: April 23, 2013
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion
Overview
1. Never trust anyone.
2. Remember they are always searching.
3. Don’t get involved.
4. Keep your head down.
5. Don’t fall in love.
Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans in a small Wisconsin town, to hide in plain sight at her high school from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”
But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules
My Take
I loved the cover! That's what attracted me to the story. Once I read what this book was about, I decided to give it a go. The hardcover copy that I purchased was also autographed too! Yay!
The story takes place in high school and of course it has stereotypes of who's he best in the class and such things as that. It's told from Ariane and Zane's point of view throughout the story which I enjoyed. You can get a real feel for Ariane and Zane are thinking and feeling. Both of them are struggling with things. For instance, Ariane constantly battles to stay under the radar and follows the rules that she is told to. Zane tries his best to be the best for his father and never seems to please him. He also misses his mother. Eventually these two meet under high school drama.
The drama in high is dealing with who's who as your friend, bullying and surviving high school. The drama seems to be coming from Rachel, who's a girl who wants to get everything her way no matter what the consequences are. I really did not like her at all. The story really does not go into that much into action except towards the end of the book, leaving it open for another I believe! We do learn a bit more about Adriane's background which I found fascinating. I felt sorry of what Adriane went through and glad that she learns to stand up for herself in many ways.
Adriane and Zane together are amazing. Their witty remarks off of each other is playful and fun. They just fit nicely together. They seem to understand each other a little bit. Do they continue to be friends or no? Will Zane find out about her secret? Will Adriane end their friendship in order to be safe? What will happen?
I never read that much sci-fi genre but this one sure got my attention. Check it out today! Go pick up this book and give it a try. I could not put it down at all. I look forward to the second book. It just totally different and a bit serious on the side.

Last night was a book signing event at Anderson's Bookstore in Naperville, IL for the author Sarah Dessen. I'm such a fan of her books! She writes so beautifully and tells such amazing stories! I got into my car and set up the GPS to go there. Well the lovely GPS took me the back roads which was fine and I did not come across any flooding! While I was on my drive, I saw some beautiful gorgeous huge houses on my way.
Once I hit the town Naperville, IL - downtown area - they had some amazing historic homes there! I just drooled at that. So I went down the street and found the bookstore. My next thing was to get a parking spot. I kept my eyes out and did not find anything close of yet. I circled liked a hawk twice and presto!! I found a spot. Of course I had to walk about half a block which was fine with me. People were out and about anyways. I spied a Starbucks and an Mac Apple Store as well. I took photos of those and sent them to my husband since he's a fan of those.
I entered the store and took my bearings for a moment. I then went up to the counter to get my books that I pre ordered and got my ticket number. There was a line and also had to wait a bit which was not bad. When I arrived it was around 7:15 pm or so. I could not get there in time although I did my best! They were on number #40 when I arrived and my number was #51. So after waiting for about 15-20 or so, I was next in line to go. A lovely mom there with her daughter told me the number since I could not hear it. Thanks to that mom! There were tons of people there..some were teens and some were not! It was a great experience!
Once in line, the person up there asked what name I would like in the book. Well I had two books! One is for me and the other is for my blog for a giveaway! So my book has my name in as the giveaway book just has Sarah Dessen's signature in it! So when it was my turn, I got there and had her sign the books, got a photo take with my iPhone and then thanked the author. I also gave Sarah Dessen some pendants that I made for her and her daughter. I hope she liked them!
After I got my books signed, I used the restrooms and took note of all the people that were there! It was awesome to see. Then I browsed around in the bookshop! I did not buy anything else but was very very tempted to!
Then I headed back to the car and thought I need to get gas. I checked with the lovely GPS and got gas and then headed back out. Well I took the expressway home and it began to snow! What the heck? Snow in April??? So I drove thinking if it was that bad I could stop at my mom's! So I drove and then all the sudden it stopped snowing. So I headed home. While driving I had to go onto ramp to get to another expressway, well luckily I saw this stupid truck driver who was on my left hand side cutting me off to get on the ramp! If I did not see him, I think there would have been an accident. I was pissed at the truck driver. After that I headed home nicely!
Here is a photograph of me with Sarah Dessen and then the book that I'm giving away! Thanks again to Sarah Dessen for coming out to Illinois battling the strange weather we had! I am also looking forward to her new book coming out June 2013 "The Moon and More!"

Overview:
What if the first day of your relationship was the only day you had?
Seventeen-year-old Sara is a seeker. She’s always on the lookout for the perfect moment to capture with her ever-present, point-and-shoot camera, especially on her first trip to New York City.
Sam is a finder. He has a knack for finding what other people can’t—a first-edition book or the last two tickets to a sold-out Broadway show. In New York, there is always something interesting to find.
When Sam and Sara’s paths cross, neither one of them is prepared for what they will find out about each other—and about themselves when they form an unlikely partnership in search of a seemingly elusive work of art. They have one day to find the impossible. Fate brought their talents together, but what happens when time runs out? Will love be able to overcome fate?
My Take:
The cover caught my eye of this little gem and immediately grabbed it! I read the cover bit and figured this book was for me. I was right! How I liked this story. It was unique and fresh.
The story takes place in New York which made me feel like I was on an adventure with Sam and Sara. The time frame was 24 hours which seemed longer to me. Sara loves the camera and uses it to capture those unique moments. So when she's in NY she couldn't pass the thought of not using her camera and manages to snap shot Sam who came out of a cafe. Something about him captured her attention.
Sam notice her noticing him. Sara follows him as then they engage in a conversation which led to one thing and another of learning a bit about each other. Their conversation connection was quite unique and fun. Of course in their conversation, they talk of things that are dear to them. Some of the things they mention is a tough thing for them to chat about but in a way I think it helps them to talk to someone about these topics rather than keeping it all bottled up.
Somehow Sam gets Sara involved with his and brother's work as it turns into a mission looking for something unique. Sam helps her. Does she succeed in her mission or not? Do sparks go flying between Sam and Sara while they chat? I think there's a great friendship there and that it could spin into something more. Read the book to find out. I think the chemistry between the two is great.
The story is written from both: Sam and Sara's perspective. I love how the chapters tell you who the perspective is. It's a nice change of pace.

My Take
This book was sent to me by Story Siren who donated it to the book baskets I"m putting together for the silent auction that I'm attending to! So when I saw the book out of the package, I knew this book was in to read pile and this was my chance to read it before it would be shipped off for the auction! I'm glad I got a chance to read it.
The book was filled with mystery and fantasy. Romance seems to pop up a bit but that becomes consistent later in the book, I think. I love how through out the book Pierce realizes there's something more than meets the eye of what is happening to her. Pierce is a character that draws danger to her as well as drawing John in.
Memories of Pierce come and go throughout the book which helped me to understand where Pierce is right now along with John in the picture. The relationship between John and Pierce seems be hot and cold which I dare wonder if it will meet up in the middle in the next book? And the danger that is after Pierce makes me wonder how that will go in the next book? Will she be safe or no?
John, I am curious of his past and how he came to be who he is. Hope to see that in the next book.
The book left me wanting to know what as going to happen to Pierce and John. Plus the description of the necklace sounds amazing which makes me want to have one! The second book is in my To Read Pile.
